What We Do - Laundry Operations

Pertl & Alexander LLC provides comprehensive expertise and support for every phase of laundry planning, design, construction and operation. Our services may include everything from initial design through final training of client staff.

The procedure we normally follow includes the following tasks:

1) Survey and Planning

We establish - in precise terms - the needs that laundry operations must serve.

In the case of existing facilities, we conduct a thorough review of existing laundry operations to determine the extent to which the current operation is meeting requirements. We identify possibilities for improving the efficiency and/or cost-effectiveness of the system. Our evaluation covers work procedures, workflow and staffing patterns in the laundry area, as well as utilities, equipment, and textile inventories.

When planning a new facility, we outline the kind of physical plant and processing systems that will best serve your needs. We create sketches showing the various design options, prepare preliminary laundry equipment lists and budgets, and furnish a preliminary typical total demand load figure for use by the electrical and mechanical engineers.

2) Feasibility Analysis

In this complex business, Pertl & Alexander LLC is a resource for your decision-making process. We can assist in deciding whether to own and operate a laundry or not; or to close a facility and contract with an outsourced supplier. Our analysis considers all of the economic factors relative to the life cycle cost of owning and operating a laundry, as well as outsourcing for service. We qualify all the data, uncover unforeseen liabilities, and organize information along with our recommendations. We have the experience and expertise to assist clients to make the best decisions.

3) System Design and Preparation of Plans and Specifications

We create scale drawings showing the placement of all laundry machinery for use by architects, engineers and contractors. Our drawings take into careful consideration facility size and shape, as well as the equipment and production requirements to ensure efficiency.

Laundry production, workflow, and equipment utilization are all carefully balanced in our designs.

4) Bid Process

Pertl & Alexander LLC publishes complete tender packages, including all plans and specifications with "typical details" for work to be performed. We thoroughly investigate major equipment suppliers and make informed recommendations relative to approving and qualifying recommended bidders. We make recommendations regarding the bids and drawings for final approval.

We level the playing field by providing generic, performance-based specifications that can be met by more than one qualified bidder. This allows our clients to identify and receive the greatest value from the bid process.

5) Inspection

We cross-check the successful equipment supplier's submittals and shop drawings. We perform on-site inspections, test the operation of equipment and systems, and prepare detailed punch-lists of deficiencies.

6) Project Management

Our project manager serves as a liaison to architects, engineers and contractors. We provide ongoing consultation, including coordination of construction, equipment delivery, equipment/system installation, plant startup and training. We supervise the installation of new machinery and train staff in its use. Our attention to detail ensures that project are completed in accordance with specifications and budget.

7) Management Consulting

Pertl & Alexander LLC establishes production standards, develops staffing schedules, creates standard operating procedures and best practices. We also perform implementation services for our clients.

8) Training

Our expert trainers provide relevant, hands-on, practical production training, thus ensuring the establishment of best practices.

9) Marketing and Strategic Planning

We analyze our client's entire business, including existing demands on operation, plus current and potential capability. We make detailed recommendations to maximize profit potential. We also provide expert guidance in the marketing client services.

10) Reports

We provide written reports detailing our observations and recommending appropriate strategies and actions. Our reports may include drawings and specifications to assist implementation.

11) Development of Laundry Manual

We prepare manuals carefully tailored to specific operations. We detail operating procedure, applicable principles of laundry design, and specifications to be used by architects in planning space allocation. Our manuals enable clients to train employees to perform preliminary phases of design work and to supervise day-to-day operations.

12) Ozone Systems Analysis and Evaluation

Our comprehensive experience with all types of laundry operations, and specifically with laundry machinery, wash formula, textile care and ozone, enables us to provide expert guidance in the selection and use of ozone generating products.

13) Special-Purpose Evaluations

Pertl & Alexander LLC performs specialized reviews to evaluate the efficiency and cost-effectiveness in critical areas of operation such as energy conservation. We have the expertise to evaluate and recommend changes in existing marking systems and detergent use. We help clients weigh the pros and cons of cold-water washing. When transportation presents supply problems (i.e., resort hotels with numerous out-lying buildings), we've designed transport systems that create the best possible solution.
